For those viewers who are sad to see the final season of Snowfall series coming to an end, do not fret; anecdotal reports indicate that there will be a spinoff of Snowfall, where Gail Bean will be the star and reprise her role from the original series.
Snowfall is an American crime drama TV series which first broadcast in July of 2017. It quickly became popular among young people between the ages of 19-45. The series, based on the 1980s crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles, follows drug dealer Franklin Saint (played by Damson Idris) as he connives his way in the world of crack cocaine.
Snowfall is in its sixth and final season, with the series finale airing on April 19, 2023.
The post-Snowfall spinoff starring Gail Bean is still early in its development. Early reports suggest that the storyline will be similar to the original LA version and will continue into the 1990s with the evolution of the gangster hip hop/rap era and rivalries between the Crips and Bloods. The spinoff will have Bean play a major role in creating a connection between the two series and hopefully lead to the generation of many new characters.
Gail Bean has appeared in several other shows, including Paradise Lost and the film Unexpected. However, she is best known for her portrayal of Wanda Bell on Snowfall. Her acting and personality were factors that led to her becoming a regular in Season 6. So far, there are no more details about the Snowfall spinoff or when it will become a reality.
What is known is that the plot for the spinoff will be written by Malcolm Spellman, who will also be the executive producer. Spellman is a well-known personality in Hollywood; he was the chief writer for Disney’s Marvel series -the winter soldier and the Falcon; he will also be writing Marvel’s Captain America: New World Order.
Others who will return from Snowfall to executive produce will be Snowfall showrunner and co-creator Dave Andron, as well as Michael London, Trevor Engelson, Julie DeJoie, and Tommy Schlamme.
Bean recently spoke to Shadow and Act about the show’s final season and potential spinoffs, stating, “You know what John does so beautifully is he creates a stage for us to grow and be bigger than when we came into the situation.” She added,” So many characters have grown, and their demand has grown. So you don’t want to trap them into something for 20 years or 16 or 18 seasons you want to do other things with. So it’s saying, ‘OK, there is not enough time to do it….so it’s now we let people go off and do other things.’ It’s time to grow and expand. But yeah, these are easily enough stories that could go on forever because some people live [and] some people die. But regarding spinoffs, you just got to watch the whole season and see if that would happen. Who would be the ideal characters? How could this go? How would you see it? You know, we are in the ’80s right now. So then, after that, then what’s next?”
Other than Bean, the other major Snowfall star that may appear in the spinoff is Damson Idris, who in the series rose in ranks in the violent and unpredictable crack cocaine business to reach the top of his trade, but with the final season approaching, he still stands to lose it all. As FX stated earlier ‘the CIA took a very non-traditional approach to destroy the crack cocaine industry in South Central LA in the 80s.’ However, there are still three more episodes left which will reveal more detail about how the story ends. But no matter what happens, viewers who love Snowfall will get to relive the experience in the spinoff.
Who will carryover from the current series, aside from Bean, remains a mystery.
