San Francisco police communicated to the public that they would not be marching in this year’s Pride Parade. This is in response to the organizers’ conclusion to not allow officers to wear their uniforms during the annual event.

The San Francisco Police Officers Pride Alliance declared the decision Monday; firefighters and sheriff’s deputies expressed they, too, would not march during The parade down Market Street.

“We need to allow the public to see that our uniformed law enforcement officers are good, they do reflect our community,” declared Jonathan Baxter, who is a San Francisco Fire Department spokesman.

The SFPD will provide security for the Officers who are part of the Pride Alliance. According to the group, it has been talked over with San Francisco Pride Committee regarding including uniformed officers in the 

LGBT event, however, could not reach a settlement with the committee members.

Mayor of San Francisco London Breed stated Monday that she would be missing this year’s Pride Parade in reaction to the policy.

“I love the Pride Parade, and what it means for our LGBTQ community and for our city. It’s one of my favorite events of the year. However, if the Pride Board does not reverse its decision, I will join our city public safety departments that are not participating in the Pride Parade. I’ve made this very hard decision in order to support those members of the LGBTQ community who serve in uniform, in our Police Department and Sheriff’s Department, who have been told they cannot march in uniform, and in support of the members of the Fire Department who are refusing to march out of solidarity with their public safety partners.”

In 2019, anti-corporate protesters barricaded the parade trail and were arrested and assaulted by police allegedly. After The murder of George Floyd in 2020, the parade organizers determined to make community members feel safe. As a result, uniformed officers would not be permitted to march in the 2021 parade. The 2021 parade did not take place due to other reasons.

The pride committee of SF responded by creating the untried policy as they followed other major cities around the country that either restricted or denied officers the leisure of participating in the annual celebration. New York City has restricted officials from participating in its parade entirely.

According to sources, the decision was made with respect to the broader community, especially people of color who may not have had positive interactions with police in the past.

Law enforcement responds that they also want to make people feel safe and welcomed. The San Francisco Pride Parade will be carried out on June 26, 2022. It will be the first public inperson parade since 2019.

Fans are convinced that Kendrick Lamar is releasing his latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, as a double album. A double album is an audio project that contains two bodies of work. Artists often think of double albums as one artistic piece. However, there have been different types of double records. For example, some artist has done their double album with one studio album and one live performance delivered. A famous example of how artists conduct double albums is the project Speakerboxxx/The Love Below by OutKast, which includes two solo albums done by each duo member.

On Tuesday, May 3, the California native gave his fans a clue about his next moves. The rapper uploaded a photo holding a couple of CDs and a book in one hand as he posed with his legs crossed on a Persian rug. The burgundy book is noticed with a branded label consisting of the project’s title, with Lamar’s full name. One had the word “Steppers,” which is referencing the Big Steppers and “master copy” on it, while the second read “Morale,” which refers to Mr. Morale which was seen on the rapper’s official website, oklama.com. K-dot has been utilizing his official website to provide fans with periodical details since 2017, when  Damn was released. 

“I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood,” he documented. “May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling.”

The Compton rapper also communicated how his ventures and past experiences influenced the following project. 

“Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family,” he noted. 

“While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next.”

Fans and blogs are deciphering what all this means. Fans assume that Since “master copy” is written on the two discs, Lamar is informing his fans the album is complete. The fact that the rapper is holding two CDs, which could suggest that Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers might be a double album. Of course, nothing has been confirmed with sources, but fans’ eagerness made the theory a 90 percent possibility. the post also included a note at the bottom of the letter: “Appreciate Your Patience.”

Last month, a press release was dropped through Kendrick’s website, revealing the release of his fifth project in May.

It has been five years since Kendrick released his project Damn, which won a Grammy in 2017. In 2018 he also worked on the Black Panther album. Since then, he has featured on songs by Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes, and others. He also won a Grammy for his work with Keem on “Family Ties.” Lamar fueled the hype even more after joining his cousin Baby Keem on stage during Keem’s debut Coachella performance last week.

And his fans know this upcoming album won’t fall far behind. 

Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will reach digital platforms on May 13. However, there’s no word he will release a single before he drops his new project next week.

Uber and Lyft were recently ordered by a California Court to reclassify their workers as employees in that state. The two ridesharing companies only had ten days to do it, and their time was going to be up on Friday, August 21st, 2020.

Then, after Lyft wrote in a blog post that they would be suspending services at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 20th, 2020, an appellate judge in California granted an emergency on the preliminary injunction. Now, according to CBS Los Angeles, as it stands, both Uber and Lyft “have until September to lay out their plans to classify their drivers as employees.”

“It’s a bogus argument and the courts saw straight through that,” said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra in his Squawk Box interview on CNBC. “What worker doesn’t want to have access to paid sick leave? What worker doesn’t want to have unemployment insurance at a time of COVID-19 crisis? What worker doesn’t want to know that they’ll get paid for overtime if they work sixty hours in a week or twelve hours in a day?”

The main argument that Uber and Lyft gave was that their employees in fact did not want to be labeled as employees because many of them felt that it would take away from their flexibility. And, while some of their drivers feel that things should have stayed the same, others feel that it’s about time something has been done, and  are happy that they are finally going to receive benefits.

“What’s worse is that Uber and Lyft tried to present a false choice,” Attorney General Becerra continued. “You don’t have to give up those rights and those benefits to have flexibility. There is nothing in California law that requires a company to remove flexibility in order for these people to be classified as employees and get those rights.

About California’s “Gig Worker Bill”

According to Investopedia, the Gig Worker Bill, California Assembly Bill 5 (AB5) would entitle Uber and Lyft drivers to multiple things, such as “workers comp, unemployment, paid sick and family leave, and health insurance, among other employee benefits.”

AB5 was signed by California Governor Gavin Newson in late September of 2019, and information from Ballotpedia indicates that “60 Democrats and 1 Republican voted to pass the legislation, and 15 Republicans and 1 Democrat voted to reject the legislation” within the California State Assembly.

A Quick History of Uber and Lyft

According to their official website, the idea for Uber was first developed by Garrett Camp and Travis Kalanick. Apparently, the two of them were stuck without a ride one snowy night in France sometime in December of 2008, and a few months later they developed the Uber app.

Ironically, the first Uber ride that was ever taken was in California, the same place where the company now has to make their previous contract workers into real employees who will now receive legally-required job benefits.

Lyft used to be called Zimride initially, and the rideshare app was created by Logan Green and John Zimmer, actually before Uber’s app. Lyft’s app was first developed in 2007, but the company was launched in San Francisco in May of 2012, over three years after Uber was already taking customers.

Everyone would recognize a Lyft driver, because they had huge, fuzzy, pink mustaches on the front of their cars. It is the second-largest rideshare company in the world, trailing only Uber.
