The last time we heard from Macy Gray was in 2018 when she released her tenth studio album, Rubi. This summer, she’s set to release her new album, “The Reset,” influenced by Police brutality covered by the media before and during the pandemic. According to recent interviews, she explained her anticipated release as something to dance to while spreading awareness through her music. 

“The album was written right in the thick of the pandemic, It was just a really good time to make an album because everybody was emotive and expressing themselves. Everybody was just, like, releasing and letting go. Most musicians are musicians because they aren’t great communicators, so it all came out in the album. “She told a yahoo journalist in her latest interview.

Macy gray explained she has a song on the album called PTSD expressing how the country (America) has given her PTSD.

“There is a song called ‘PTSD,’ which is a song about how my country gave me PTSD, because after all that I was traumatized…” 

She expressed her trauma after witnessing countless acts of police brutality. It motivated her to start an organization supporting families who lost relatives due to police violence. The 2020 organization My Good offers financial and emotional aid to fight mental disorders in the community. 

According to “Mapping Police Violence,”” since 2022 started, police have killed 506 people in the US; black people are three times more likely to be killed by police than any other race.
