Ever since it was announced last week that ex-president Trump was indicted, almost every news channel has gone wild. For the past few days, there has been non-stop coverage of Trump on almost all online news sites.
But today will be a historical day in US political history; this is the first time an ex-US president who has been indicted will be arraigned, and even though the charges have not been announced, there is palpable anxiety among Americans.
Trump himself has not changed since the indictment; On social media, he has been acting boisterous and cocky, claiming that all this is political persecution on the part of the Democrats and he is completely innocent. He has been badmouthing the entire DA’s office in New York, including Alvin Bragg and Joe Biden, and even his lawyers seem to agree that Trump has first amendment rights and is free to badmouth anyone he wants.
Yesterday Trump Flew from Florida to New York, and it was pandemonium and chaos; reporters from almost every news organization have been following him everywhere, including Trump Towers. Today, the area around Manhattan Criminal Court is packed with both pro-Trump and anti-trump protestors, and there is more media personnel than tourists in the area.
It is expected that Trump will arrive at the courthouse around 2.30 pm and enter via a side door; already, most news channels have interrupted their normal broadcasts and are focusing on Trump’s indictment in New York. The arraignment will probably take several hours, but since no live cameras are permitted, everyone will have to wait to hear from the lawyers about what transpired inside the courtroom.
How the indictment will play out is not known, but experts from law enforcement and the judicial services have been offering all types of possible scenarios; the two definite things about this circus are that Trump will not appear in handcuffs, and there will be no bail set; he will be free to leave after the arraignment.
Outside the courthouse in Manhattan, reporters from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and many more have come in force, determined to be the first to tell the world about the charges against Trump. So far, most of the coverage by these networks has focussed on the exact nature of the charges, but no one knows for sure.
But on Fox, which has always been a pro-trump network, there is speculation that this has been a Democratic hit job with political motivations; the Republicans seem to be asking why Trump has been indicted, especially when New York is awash with violent criminals out on the street.
Trump has also made numerous incendiary statements verging on reckless — and whether his words come to haunt him remains to be seen if the case goes to trial. Trump’s lawyer has already stated that Trump will not accept a plea deal because he is innocent.
However, the one universal feature on every news channel that no one seems to be disputing is Trump’s affair/one-night stand with Stormy Daniels; while most viewers seem to agree that Trump may have paid her money, whether he paid campaign money to silence her and where the money came from will be the highlights of the case against him.
Well, in just a matter of a few hours, millions of Americans and many across the globe will find out what Trump has been charged with. This extraordinary moment in our lives will lead to Trump News Mania for some time. Whether Trump will continue to speak out remains to be seen because many former prosecutors believe that the judge may put a gag order on him- but knowing the man, he is completely out of control and appears oblivious to what is happening in his world. This is the least serious of all Trump’s legal hassles; the ex-president has more serious legal trouble ahead, and they will most likely come with more serious penalties.
.
With the world watching, asides from Trump, some key figures who will help determine his fate include his former lawyer Michael Cohen; porn star Stormy Daniels; no-nonsense judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw the tax fraud case against the Trump organization; and Alvin Bragg, the first African American DA who will face a proud man that so far has always escaped the law.
