Recently English songwriter, composer, and singer Ed Sheeran joined forces with Nigerian Fireboy DML and created a new version of the song ‘Peru.’ The song was first released in July 2021 by YBNL Nation / Empire.
The two artists have done wonders to the song and introduced a nice rhythmic melody backed by the soothing voices of the two artists. The song is about Romance where Fireboy relates the story of a female who has captured his heart and soul. She then tries to seduce him wherever he goes globally including his trip from Jozi Miami to San Francisco.
The first minute of the song introduces the crispy voice of Fireboy and then Sheeran’s voice echoes over the background of a vintage afrobeat. And Sheeran’s magical voice says, “Pour up the bottle I wanna level up. When I’m with you I never get enough. Slow whine, I’m not in a rush.”
Both Fireboy and Sheeran have been pleasantly surprised at the success of the song with fans demanding more of the duo in the future.
After the release of the song, Fireboy said, “It has been a dream knowing Ed Sheeran is a fan of my sound and having him jump on a song that was inspired by me traveling the world. Not only is this an exciting moment for me, but also for Afrobeats. I hope this is the first of many collaborations with Ed and other artists around the globe, and I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy this song during the holidays.”
So far, ‘Peru’ has been a major hit globally and has quickly accumulated more than 75 million streams. In Nigeria, it is currently the second most-streamed song. The title of his sophomore album that was just related last year is called Apollo.
Fireboy joined forces with Sheeran for the new single just ahead of his first-ever Apollo US tour which will start in February in Providence RI and this will be followed by more performance in most American cities-but with the covid pandemic still going strong, the date and times may be revised.
For Fireboy this 2021 has been a good year. He is quickly getting known in the USA and even appeared recently on the Jimmy Fallon show, where he teamed up with D Smoke to perform a special medley where he received grand applause from the audience.
The famous Nigerian singer got matched with Sheeran after a friend sent Ed the original ‘Peru’ song. Sheeran like it so much that he then called up Fireboy and the rest is history. After just a few sessions together they have the perfect melody out for 2022.
