A flash flood took southern Florida On Wednesday, Leading to schools being closed and the airport being unable to function. Up to 20 inches of rainfall affected Broward County. Florida residents took to social media with images of homes, cars, and, most shockingly, the airport filled with water.
Due to the light disaster, Fort Lauderdale airport took to Twitter and informed the public they would be closed until later in the evening on Thursday.
Broward County Public Schools declared schools and district offices to be closed Thursday.
After a historic day of rainfall, Florida is expected to have more rain this Thursday.
As cars ended up stuck in the middle of the street, Emergency crews worked tirelessly through the night responding to calls.
Officials ask residents to avoid the area until the flood subsides.
“We are requesting drivers to stay off the roads and avoid the City of Fort Lauderdale until the water has subsided,” the city of Fort Lauderdale expressed in a news release Wednesday evening.
