Sacramento rapper Mozzy’s solo life as a musician has ended. And while he still is in charge of his own Mozzy record label, the 34-year old just recently announced that he is now a formal partner with Yo Gotti on the Collective Music Group (CMG) label (also known as Cocaine Music Group and Enterprises ll)
This surprising news announcement was made yesterday at CMG’s press conference, and most people were excited.
At the conference, first Gotti revealed that the Northern Californian rapper Mozzy had decided to join his label; later Mozzy revealed on stage how he had connected with Gotti. He stated that Gotti had known him for a long time and supported his career when he was just starting out- so this partnership just felt right. Said Gotti, “I always wanted to work with an artist from the West Coast. After years of having big conversations, running into each other, and sharing ideas, we come here tonight to let you know we’re proud for a partnership to bring our dawg Mozzy into CMG.”
And Mozzy acknowledged, “Overdue, overdue, out the gate. Big dawg been tappin’ in with me—I’m talkin’ about even before a n***a career even popped.”
By joining the CMG roster, Mozzy will join an illustrious group of other rappers including EST Gee, 42 Dugg. Moneybagg Yo, and Blocboy JB. As the announcement was made, Mozzy stood next to Yo Gotti and immediately said that he would kick start his tenure at CMG with the release of his new single, ‘Real Ones’ which also has the rapper, Roddy Rich, on it. And Yo Gotti was happy to have him on board by acknowledging his tenure on Instagram by saying, “Welcome to the Family @mozzy.” and Mozzy was quick to reply back, “COCAINE MONEY GANG. Appreciate the opportunity. Big dawg.”
Since signing the deal with CMG, Mozzy has received widespread support from other rappers including ScHoolboy Q, KCamp, YG, and Conway the machine. Also announced by CMG was that EST Gee and 42 Dugg were working on a collaborative mixtape which was to be released sometime this year
While joining CMG offers Mozzy more opportunities to work with other rappers, it remains to be seen if he is a good fit, primarily because he has always worked solo; and sometimes there are personality clashes.
CMG recently partnered with Interscope and is home to many hot rappers like 42 Dugg, Moneybagg Yo, and EST Gee- all these three are very popular at the moment. Yo Gotti seems to be doing something right as he is now worth over $16 million and counting. Besides being the CEO of CMG, Gotti has had 3 gold albums and has been a recipient of three BET Hip Hop Award nominations. And his 10th album from 2020, ‘Untrapped’ is now in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart. If Mozzy plays the game right, he will also have a chance to make good money and earn fame- time will tell.
