Sherrone Moore Fired by Michigan as Police Investigation Continues; Court Appearance Expected
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan has fired head football coach Sherrone Moore, citing violations of institutional policy, as local police continue to review a separate investigation involving the former coach.

University officials confirmed Moore’s dismissal earlier this week following an internal review. The university did not release details of the findings, citing personnel and privacy policies, but said the decision was made to uphold campus standards and protect the integrity of the football program.

The firing comes amid heightened

ofleadership within Michigan athletics and has quickly drawn national attention.

Police Investigation into Sherrone Moore Firing

In addition to the university’s internal action, Moore is the subject of a police investigation being handled by the Pittsfield Township Police Department. Authorities have released limited information and have not announced any formal charges.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, Washtenaw County’s online court system showed no public record of a hearing, arraignment, or criminal charges involving Moore.

However, Pittsfield Township police said in a statement issued Thursday that they expected Moore to appear in court on Friday, indicating the case remains active and subject to further developments.

Police declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation

University Response

Michigan officials said the university acted after completing its internal review process. The athletic department declined to comment on whether the internal findings are related to the police matter.

In a brief statement, university leadership emphasized its commitment to professional conduct and accountability across all athletic programs.

Public Reaction

News of Moore’s firing spread quickly across social media and sports media outlets. While many reactions focused on leadership responsibility, other online discussions included speculation that has not been confirmed by officials.

University representatives and law enforcement have urged restraint as the investigation continues.

Albom Commentary Draws Attention

Veteran columnist Mitch Albom addressed the situation in recent commentary, framing Moore’s firing within the broader context of leadership expectations in college athletics.

Albom did not report new facts related to the investigation, but his column contributed to national discussion about accountability, public trust, and how quickly narratives form around high-profile figures.

Impact on Michigan Football

The sudden leadership change leaves Michigan football facing uncertainty as it prepares for postseason play. Players and staff are operating without a permanent head coach, and no long-term leadership plan has been publicly announced as of Friday morning.

University officials said the athletic department remains focused on maintaining stability and continuity.

Ongoing Investigation and Expected Court Activity

Both the university’s internal review process and the police investigation remain ongoing. Moore has not issued a public statement, and officials have said further information will be released only if appropriate.

Court activity is expected, though no hearing or charges were listed in county records as of early Friday. Attention now turns to whether additional legal or administrative actions will follow as authorities continue their review. source
