The Defense Department has recently identified three soldiers who tragically lost their lives at a base in Jordan. These brave individuals made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country, and their names will forever be remembered.

The soldiers have been identified as Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, and Staff Sgt. James F. Moriarty. They were part of a training mission in Jordan when they came under fire. The circumstances surrounding their deaths are still under investigation, but it is clear that they were dedicated and courageous soldiers.

Staff Sgt. Lewellen, 27, was from Lawrence, Kansas. He enlisted in the Army in 2009 and served as a Special Forces engineer sergeant. He was known for his professionalism, leadership, and commitment to his fellow soldiers.

Staff Sgt. McEnroe, 30, hailed from Tucson, Arizona. He enlisted in the Army in 2007 and served as a Green Beret weapons sergeant. He was highly regarded by his peers and known for his dedication and strong work ethic.

Staff Sgt. Moriarty, 27, was from Kerrville, Texas. He joined the Army in 2008 and served as a Special Forces communications sergeant. He was an exceptional soldier who was admired for his intelligence, resourcefulness, and sense of humor.

These soldiers were part of the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They were deployed to Jordan as part of a joint operation with Jordanian forces to train Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS.

Their tragic deaths serve as a reminder of the dangers faced by our military personnel every day. They put their lives on the line to protect our freedom and security, and their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The Defense Department is working closely with Jordanian authorities to investigate the incident and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As a nation, we must honor the memory of these fallen soldiers and support their families during this difficult time. Their service and sacrifice will always be remembered and appreciated. May they rest in peace, and may their families find comfort and strength in the midst of their grief.
