Atlanta was buzzing with excitement on May 26 as hip-hop fans assembled for a greatly anticipated Verzuz.
This Time on Verzuz, Two of the most impactful Southern rap duos, UGK and 8Ball & MJG, are finally set to face off for the latest Verzuz.
UGK is short for Underground Kingz. The duo is from Port Arthur, Texas. The group was assembled in 1987 by Chad(“Pimp C” Butler) and Bernard Freeman (“Bun B”). The duo has been featured on hit singles such as “Big Pimpin'” by Jay-Z and “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” by Three 6 Mafia. Pimp C established UGK Records in 2005 but died in 2007 in his West Hollywood, California, hotel room.
8Ball & MJG is hip-hop hailing from Memphis, Tennessee. In the mids of 1993, the duo released their debut album, Comin’ Out Hard, where they gained their army of faithful fans. Since then, they have released songs that impacted hip hop, such as On the Outside Looking In, and Ten Toes Down.
Texas versus Tennessee is two homes of southern hip-hop music.
This is the first Verzuz since Anthony Hamilton went against Musiq Soulchild in February. The Battle was agreed to take place in January 2021, but due to unsaid reasons, it happened yesterday instead.

According to sources, the audience selected the underground kings as the champion of the face-off. Fans bombarded social media about this Battle. There was an abundance of love for Pimp C throughout the show, and everyone took a moment in science in the thought of the lives recently lost in the Uvalde, Robb Elementary School shooting.
