Terrence LeVarr Thornton, otherwise known as Pusha T has just released a sample of his new song ‘Diet Coke’. The song was actually written by Kanye West and 88-keys. The few lyrics in black and white on Instagram have been a hit with over 2.2 million views in less than 24 hours.
Pusha T claims that the beat was actually made nearly 18 years ago but only just released the song. Pusha claims that his manager and Worldwide founder /CEO Steven victor were so encouraged by the song that they released a clip on Instagram. The fancy artwork on the cover depicted in the video has been designed by Sterling Ruby, who is well known for his colorful graphics.
The short clip does reveal a resonating song with the following lyrics:
[Intro]
Yesterday’s price is not today’s price!
Like, like—like, crack—crack, like, like
Like, li—li—crack, crack, crack
[Chorus]
Imaginary players ain’t been coached right
Master recipes under stove lights The number on this jersey is the quote price
You ordered Diet Coke, that’s a joke, right?
Everybody get it off the boat, right?
But only I can really have a snow fight
Detroit nigga challenge, what’s your dope like?
If your Benz bigger, step it up to Ghost life
Missy was our only misdemeanor
My tunnel vision’s better under stove lights
You ordered Diet Coke, that’s a joke, right?
My workers compensated so they don’t strike
Pusha T has been friends with Kanye West for many years. In 2015, Pusha T was appointed by West to become the president of Good Music. And he has done quite well releasing a number of songs over the past few years.
As the number of readers grew on Instagram in response to the Diet Coke song, Pusha T went on to state on Twitter, “Ye and 88 produced for sure. Pusha-T raps abt more, well you know.” He added, “Omar Jones directed the video… It’s dropping tomorrow,” as well as shouted out Mike Dean for his involvement.
In the song, Pusha does acknowledge Kanye with the line, “Far as I’m concerned, who’s the best? Me and Yezos.” And who is Yezos? That is a nickname Pusha has used for Ye. In the Diet Coke song, Pusha also gives a sampling of Fat Joe’s voice, by using his well-liked expression, “Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.”
Steven Victor in a recent interview with Complex did attest the fact that Pusha still manages Good Music with Ye and will soon be releasing his new album Def Jam as part of the contract. Victor did add that Pusha has fulfilled his contract obligation with Ye but will still continue with several other projects with the superstar.
Pusha himself is elated with the response to the Diet Coke clip on Instagram and said,
“This era of Push is probably the most relaxed and competitive. I take the game so lightly, because now I know I’m so different. I know nobody is touching me on the street rap tip. It’s just not happening. I just want them to understand my foundation, and when it comes to my foundation, ain’t nobody fucking with me on that.”
For the die-hard fans who want to listen to the whole Diet Coke track, it is available on Apple Music, Youtube, and Spotify.
