Rihanna has always been an unapologetic icon, but her pregnancy has made her bolder than ever. Her Trendy maternity looks have been jaw-dropping since revealing her pregnancy with A$AP Rocky in January.
Rihanna’s reveal included public photos. She and A$AP Rocky posed in Harlem as she wore a festive vintage Chanel puffer coat, unbuttoned from the bottom, low-slung jeans, and topped off the look with a Chanel chain belt. From that moment, she graced the public with a new head-turning outfit.
Her selection of crop tops, sheer dresses, and belly chains have changed maternity fashion for generations to come. Now she is the face of American Vogue’s May issue.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, RiRi opened up about her life in the past few months and why she’s highlighted her body rather than concealing it.
“I wouldn’t say we were planning to start a family,”
The Grammy winner stated that she “didn’t waste any time” revealing the news to the rapper. “I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”
“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry… it’s too much fun to get dressed up,” she informed Vogue. “I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.”
In the photoshoot shot by the amazing Annie Leibovitz, Rihanna poses in numerous looks. In a photo, she is shot in a Parisian hotel room during fashion week as she displays her bump. She was dressed in a dramatic veiled Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown, and a red Rick Owens cropped jacket and long skirt. The Marc Jacobs coat paired with her own Savage X Fenty briefs made the outfit a look to die for.
Ri and Rocky sparked romance rumors back in 2019. The longtime friends kept their relationship confidential until he called Rihanna “The One” in a May 2021 GQ interview. Then recently, the mom-to-be made headlines after rocking a gigantic diamond on her ring finger.
“people don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me.”
She continued, “I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.”
The fashion icons became public with their relationship in late 2020, right before Rocky accompanied Rihanna to Barbados over the holidays.
“My mother has a really good read on people. She observes first, and then she’ll move slowly. I guess I’m like that too,” she briefed Vogue. “There are some guys that I’ve dated that she won’t even look at to this day. But she was charmed by him from the jump.”
By late 2021, Rihanna got pregnant with her and the Harlem native’s first child and will be parents for the first time.
